about us

Janet Byers (L) with niece Sherena (Skyler's mom)

We're Janet and Jason Byers and we live in Nashville, Tennessee (we're originally from Seattle.)  In a nutshell, I had relatives with farms and a childhood that developed an earth friendly, green and healthy outlook on life.  I also grew up being a part of the social movements of the 60's.

I raised my son Jason the same way; he's now a part of this charity and his generation's causes that echo the spirit of the 60's.  We are abolitionists and actively work to stop human trafficking, child slave labor, sex trafficking and kids forced to kill (child soldiers and kids in gangs.)

We believe extreme poverty is a the root of many of the world's problems so also work to help the poor, end social injustice and stop the ravaging of our planet caused by those who hurt people AND the earth purely for profit (and ignore the true cost.)

Organic in Nashville is a labor of love by Whole Earth International, Inc.  which is a non-profit charity for change and social responsibility (with the specific focus of raising money for other non-profits and spreading the word about human trafficking through music and the arts.)  We don't want to Occupy Wall Street though...we want to Occupy JUSTICE!  This includes hitting greedy corporations and politicians directly in their pocketbooks.  Simply buying Fair Trade products isn't enough...we believe in boycotting and pressure campaigns (although we know that money speaks the loudest!)

We promote an organic and green lifestyle and want to help others in the greater Nashville area easily find resources that will improve their lives.  We've baked all natural, wheat free and corn free dog treats for years and I also make all natural and organic bath and beauty products (which will be for sale online soon.)  We both make jewelry that we sell to help raise money for the various social causes we support and educate others about.

We cherish our faith, family, friends, food, fun and fur (we have 7 furry critters...3 cats and 4 dogs and all but two are rescues.)  We enjoy sunshine, nature, good food, computers, reading, gardening, animals, camping  and we seek to live in ways that benefit ourselves, others and our planet.  We do admit to watching too many Netflix movies but we no longer watch any commercial television.  We find creating and crafting, the great outdoors, street fairs, farmers markets, music events, libraries, curling up with a good book, inviting friends over and the like to be INFINITELY more enjoyable than watching television anyway!  (And a lot less stressful...it's amazing how T.V. news can raise one's blood pressure...)

We hate genetically modified food (GMO foods), corporate greed and governmental interference with our rights to use heritage seeds, drink raw milk and all the other intrusive laws they're trying to pass.  And we'd like to see laws that have already passed get repealed; unfair and insane laws regarding our inherent right to eat whatever we want...and not be "live guinea pigs" for toxic chemical pushers looking to make a buck.

We got involved in organic coffee through Our Mission Coffee, a company who seemed to collapse in February of 2012 due to what they called an "unsustainable business model."  We were extremely glad we never actually tried to "build a network" because that work would have all gone down the drain! (and we loathe network marketing anyway...it's fine for some but simply does not work for us...makes us feel like we're sharks endlessly cruising for food.)

Instead, we researched coffee, found a great supplier (who actually has a relationship with his farmers, something Our Mission Coffee did not have but instead they were just buying from Bongo Java.)  We started Coffee For Change and Chocolate For Change as a result of our research and commitment to helping stop the slave labor in the coffee and cocoa industries.

The PRIMARY reason we started Coffee 4 Change and Chocolate 4 Change is to help raise money to donate to non-profits who work to stop child slavery, human trafficking, feed the poor and help the earth.  (Yes, we like that others can earn money for their own causes through our unique affiliate program) but we're in it for the products and the social justice, not to make a fortune!  So the fair trade organic coffee affiliate program is there for those looking to change their own lives as well as the lives of others.

In fact, learning about organic, Fair Trade coffee and chocolate led me to creating Organic in Nashville.  Of course I hope to sell products (and present the affiliate opportunity) BUT mostly this site was created because I have a real passion for seeing people set free from unhealthy lifestyles, being overweight and eating toxic food!  This passion started back in 1998 while helping my own sister find natural ways to battle some of her health problems.  And then I found out about Aspartame while helping another friend and then I did some more research on other health issues that helped a few more friends...I've been studying, watching trends, reading reports and gathering info ever since then. Thank you for visiting our site, we pray it blesses you and brings you something of value!

Go organic, go green, buy Fair Trade and care for your body, mind and spirit.

Love the people in your life and love your neighbors.

Care for hurting people, animals and our planet.

It's a good recipe for a good life!
